Silk Roads

Tourism

"Hans" were the buying houses at real ends of the Silk Roads on the Western end. In Turkey today they still function as markets.

Yeah, that's me with some new friends during a visit to Potala in Lhasa Tibet a few years ago. Likable people there!

The potential for tourism along the ancient and modern Silk Roads is mind-boggling! .

QUIT DREAMING AND PACK A BAG

OK, do your homework first. Do some research and make a plan.

Don't believe most of the news about how dangerous the world is. Really the most dangerous place is at home in the bathroom. So many people die there! Driving a car is unbelievably dangerous! But, we all still go to the bathroom and most of us drive cars.

Personally I loath and despise standard tourist packages whipping people through the highlights of the world in a few days. It's an insult to the cultures and people that built those highlights. I suggest people get jobs in different locations of the world and really get to know the places you visit. Or, at least stay a few months to at least get a little deeper feeling for the places you visit. Anything else is just a waste of airfare in my opinion.

Below are just a few of the hundreds of interest areas anyone can explore along the Silk Roads:

  • Adventure experiences like trekking, paragliding, bungee jumping, white water rafting
  • Archeology
  • Arts, traditional and modern handicrafts, theater, music, dance, comedy
  • Fashion, jewelry & gems - from mining to cutting, polishing and jewelry design
  • Gold - Visit gold mines
  • History - visit the great libraries and most ancient universities, as well as the graveyards of the saints and sinners of history
  • Houses of worship, from Zoroastrian and Buddhist temples to synagogues, churches and masjids
  • Museums - large and small
  • Sports - including football, golf, skiing, tennis, triathlon, martial arts, weight lifting
  • Tea - visit tea farms & factories and follow the ancient tea roads
  • Traditional cooking
  • Wellness experiences - Tai chi, yoga, meditation, prayer in innumerable holy places
  • Wildlife photography
Download and check out my pdf posted above. Anyone can do such things. The world is beautiful for most people in most places at most times.

Try to focus on the positives. Build good relationships here, there and everywhere and the world will get even better. The world gets better one person at a time.

So, make a difference in the world. Do some research, make a plan and pack a bag!
